Welcome to the journey! I’m a Family Herbalist student who is also seeking after God’s own heart.
I’m taking a closer look at the often stepped over plants growing along the cracks of our sidewalks and the ones popping up relentlessly in our lawns and gardens. I’m stopping in my tracks to look up and gaze at the conifer trees that border my suburban neighborhood . . . and I’m asking, “What Lord, did you have in mind for us, when you created all of this?”
As a wife and a mom of two who has recently been transplanted to Jacksonville, Florida, I am finding that there’s just an infinite number of things for me to discover outside my front door.
A Pacific Northwest native (raised a little south of the Seattle, Washington area), I’ve always enjoyed my time outside, especially in the summer. I was told by my dad that I could often be found digging up holes in our yard as a kid, usually looking for worms and making mud pies. So, I guess you could say, nature has always intrigued me.
Yet as an adult, diving into the wonderful world of medicinal herbs, I couldn’t find exactly where I fit in. I wanted to marvel at creation, while worshipping the creator…not what has been created itself. I wanted to learn all the myriad of benefits plants offer us while keeping it in the intended context for our lives. That way, it can never be forgotten who the sole healer, counselor, and lover of our souls is. So, let’s take a pause out of each week together to examine some of the plants that have existed here on earth, even before us, and let’s connect the dots, piece together this love letter that was left in the form of nature . . . and in the process let’s discover God’s heart towards us.
